Seeking a highly motivated Systems Developer to join the Wind Tunnel Division at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California. As a Systems Developer you will be responsible for developing and maintaining systems to support the Wind Tunnel Systems Branch. This opening is part of the Jacobs ATOM (Aerospace Testing, Operations and Maintenance) Contract, contributing to projects in the Unitary Plan Wind Tunnel.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The System Developer(s) play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining software systems that support wind tunnel data acquisition, computations, databasing and data visualization.

Design and Development:

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional teams to understand wind tunnel test requirements.

  • Create and enhance systems in support of the Wind Tunnel Systems Branch using development tools like Confluence, Jira and Bitbucket.

  • Implement features related to data acquisition, real-time processing, and workflow automation.

  • Optimize systems for performance and reliability.

Programming Experience:

  • Demonstrate strong proficiency in C and C programming.

  • Utilize the C standard library and algorithms effectively.

  • Understand memory management.

  • Design and implement efficient workflows for data processing, analysis, and reporting.

  • Document system architecture, design decisions, and implementation details.

  • Integrate third-party tools and libraries as needed.

  • Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing.

Troubleshooting and Optimization:

  • Identify and document bottlenecks, bugs, and performance issues.

  • Collaborate with the staff on solutions to enhance system efficiency.

Information Technology Security:

  • Develop systems that adhere to security protocols.

  • Understand network segmentation and isolation techniques.

  • Ensure data integrity and confidentiality.

Must be able to obtain a NASA Badge and gain access to the facilities. Must be able to obtain a security clearance if required by the customer/client.

The base salary range for this position is 80,000 - 150,000. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a Computer Science, Systems, or Engineering related discipline.

  • Experience performing systems development related projects.

  • Experience working with the Windows, Unix, and Linux operating systems.

  • Proficiency in the standard Microsoft Office applications.

  • Willing and able to learn new technologies and

  • Able to adapt to organizational structures.

  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.

Desired Skills:

  • Familiar with modern software development methodologies and configuration management best practices.

  • Experience with C, C and bash shell scripting.

  • Experience working with a relational database.

  • Development experience using the Atlassian toolkit including Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.

  • Understanding of mathematics and aerospace is desired.

  • Understanding of network security principles.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
