This position is responsible for coordinating and interfacing with multiple Human Landing Systems (HLS) engineering disciplines, system elements, cross-program elements, and customers in the development of the HLS Cargo Lander. This is an exciting and challenging leadership position that requires creativity, innovation, collaboration, and consensus building with HLS leadership and technical experts across virtually all disciplines and functions. This position combines a need for clear and strategic thinking, project management skills, and a dedication to documenting information gathered and developed.

We are looking for an integral team player who works collaboratively with others, and who can also work independently, coordinate projects, develop, and learn new skills, and maintain communication with various stakeholders while working on multiple simultaneous projects. The primary focus of this position is providing systems engineering and integration support to the Systems Design & Definition Branch (EV72) for the Human Landing System (HLS) Cargo Lander and to the MSFC Systems Engineering and Integration Division (EV70).

The selected candidate will support the development of key systems engineering products including interface requirement documents, support program/project milestones and subsequent activities where these products are assessed and matured. The selected candidate will also work with HLS customers/partners from inception to deployment to ensure stakeholder needs are satisfied.

  • The system engineering support that the candidate will perform includes:

  • Provide technical integration with other engineering disciplines, Human Landing System elements, and cross-program elements, including risk-based insight/oversight through traceability and assessment of interface design activities.

  • Support Human Landing System element and/or subsystem design trades and analysis necessary to validate the requirements, maintain control of the system baseline, and continually track compliance of the system requirements during design, development, testing, and evaluation.

  • Perform thorough technical assessments of proposed internal and external interface requirements to understand the impacts imposed by modifications.

  • Provide support for Design Analysis Cycle (DAC) planning, execution, coordination, and integration for the interface definition and interface control requirements to assure design compliance.

  • Communicate issues, best practices, lessons-learned and other technical findings related to systems engineering, requirements management, and integration practices and procedures.

  • Identify, describe, and communicate potential risks related to the products, processes and interactions in the systems engineering processes and document them in the NASA Risk Management System.

Here’s what you’ll need :

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):Degree from an ABET accredited university preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a:BS with at least 5 years of systems engineering, integration, and/or aerospace experience. Additional Qualifications:

  • 1 Year(s) of Experience in Leading Technical Teams

  • Experience using analytical methods to assess systems requirements, using systems engineering processes, and writing and interpreting technical documentation.

  • Knowledge of systems modeling language experience (i.e., UML or SysML), and relevant tool experience (as a user, not an admin)

  • Experience using requirements management tools such as DOORS

  • Familiarity with JIRA or similar task management software (as a user, not an admin) Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 Year(s) of Experience in Leading Technical Teams

  • Advanced systems modeling language experience (any UML or SysML), and relevant tool experience (as a user, not an admin)

  • Intermediate experience with JIRA or similar task management software (as a user, not an admin)

Work Environment

Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
